What Our Families Are Saying…

  • Vesien Huang, Parent of Audrie Huang (Kindergarten Class of 2014-2015)

My daughter has attended Crescent for 3 years since she was a Pre-Primary. Her teachers have always been patient and dedicated. The director and staff have been caring and loving. It continues to amaze me how my daughter has grown and learned so much since she started at Crescent. We are thankful to have found a program that allows my child to be eager to learn, be creative and self-dependent. We did not hesitate to let our daughter continue in the Kindergarten program at this school because we know she will continue to flourish!

  • Ines and Steve Gonzales, Parents of Kal and Emmy (Kindergarten Class of 2010-2011)

I live in Cupertino School District (one of the best in California) and I chose to send my daughter Emmy to Crescent Montessori for Kindergarten. I am so happy that my husband and I made this choice. Emmy receives personalized attention from two fabulous teachers who are caring and responsive. For example, at the formal conference in the fall, her teachers shared samples of Emmy’s work and we came up with a plan to tailor the homework and spelling test to her level. I saw the changes right away in her homework folder. Informally, they bring any issues to my attention so that we can address them quickly as a team. Emmy gained confidence being one of the older children in the classroom and all the perks that came from being a third year student. The younger children look up to the older children in the classroom and lean compassion and responsibility from helping them in the classroom. The monthly field trips give them a chance to explore the community with their peers. I am amazed at how much and what Emmy learns. She talk about the solar system, volcanoes, practices math at the dinner table, and eagerly does her homework. She is truly thriving and maturing in this third year and I am confident that Crescent is giving her the best head start possible.

Melissa Wyant

Head of School

Ms. Melissa found her love for Montessori in college after taking a Montessori education class.

After graduating from San Jose State with a BA in Child and Adolescent Development in 2012 she went on to earn a Montessori Credential in Primary Education from the Center for Guided Montessori Studies.

Her Montessori career began as a Lead Guide in the toddler community at Calaveras Montessori School.

Two years later, she was promoted into the primary community and became the Lead Guide at Crescent Montessori School. Soon after she was promoted again as the Head of School.

As a Head of School, she pulls from her experiences in the classroom at both age levels and brings that knowledge & experience to an administrative level.

What inspires her most about the Montessori education is the philosophy of the child as a whole.

This concept really spoke to her because she believes education should be about more than just academics but the child as an independent individual.

Being able to guide and support each child as they grow and discover in their own way gives her the greatest joy as a Montessori educator.

Annie Encina

Assistant Head of School

Ms. Annie is the Assistant Head of School at Crescent Montessori School.

She was born on the island of Oahu in Honolulu Hawaii and moved to Mountain View, California when she was 2 years old.

After graduating from Mountain View High School, she completed her ECE units at Ohlone College to become a qualified teacher.

Prior to joining the Montessori School of Silicon Valley, she worked at the onsite Child Care Center at the Fremont YMCA for 5 years. During the summers she was a camp counselor in the YMCA Summer Day Camp.

When Ms. Annie joined the Crescent staff in November 2010, she initially worked in the Pre-Primary community. After a couple years she was promoted to the Assistant Head of School, and has continued to help Ms. Melissa run MSOSV’s largest school.

Throughout the years she’s learned so much about the Montessori philosophy and has enjoyed being able to continue her Montessori journey with such a wonderful school community!

Hannah Hebron

Lead Primary Guide

Ms. Hannah is the Lead Primary Guide in the Monet Community at Crescent Montessori School.

She has been teaching at Crescent Montessori School since 2011 and recently obtained her AMS Montessori Certification in Primary Education and Early Childhood.

Her Montessori journey began at Crescent as an assistant in the Pre-Primary community. After several years in that community, she began working with the Primary age children in the Monet classroom.

She enjoys working with children to help them develop their growth and independence.

She is enthusiastic about being a member of the Crescent Montessori community and having the opportunity to work with the wonderful staff and children.

Jea Sevilla

Lead Primary Guide

Ms. Jea has been working with children for over 6 years and is the Lead Primary Guide in Van Gough.

She received her AA in Childhood Education in 2011.

Her experience working with children has ranged from working at a play-based center, assisting in public school classrooms and eventually finding her true passion in teaching at a Montessori school

The Montessori philosophy has opened a new perspective for Ms. Jea, especially when it comes to childhood education. It was the peaceful and calm atmosphere that captivated her to further look into the Montessori method.

She is amazed by how self-willed the children are when it comes to their own learning inside a Montessori classroom. It is her passion in this field that keeps her motivated and looking forward to meeting new children and watching them grow and develop pride in themselves.

Mariah Sanchez

Lead Primary Guide

Ms. Mariah is the Lead Primary Guide is the O’Keefe classroom at Crescent Montessori School.

She joined the Crescent Montessori team in 2015. She began her career as an aide, completed her ECE units to become an assistant in the Primary classrooms, and was promoted to a Lead Guide in 2018 set to finish her Montessori credential in June 2019.

She is inspired to be a Montessori teacher because of the independence that develops in each child, as well as their joyfulness in the classroom.

As a Lead Guide she enjoys helping each child in all areas of life – from hands on learning to social independence and self-discovery, Ms. Mariah is there to guide each child to their full potential.

In Ms. Mariah’s free time she enjoys anything outdoors and watching Cowboys football.

Nora Ortega

Lead Pre-Primary Guide

Ms. Nora is the Lead Pre Primary Guide in the Cassatt Community at Crescent Montessori School. She has been teaching our 2-3 year old community since 2002, receiving her Montessori Credential in 2012 after teaching for many years and gaining a lot of experience.

She is drawn to Montessori because of the ability to observe and follow every child. She finds her passion in observing her classroom and setting up an environment in which the children are engaged and successful.

What inspires Ms. Nora the most is how Montessori philosophy really focuses on each individual child and learning at the foundational level. She draws on her own experience growing up and learning in a traditional environment and how coming into a Montessori environment, she was able to learn so much more and at such a foundational level right alongside the children. It was seeing how the children fully understand what they are learning because they are learning and creating in their own way, that inspires her the most.

In her spare time, Ms. Nora likes to go on walks and dance. She loves to listen to music throughout her day. By far her favorite job is being a mom. She spends her free time with her son, Jacob, sharing all aspects of their day.
