Reflecting on MSOSV’s Staff Development Day: Learning, Connection, and Appreciation

Behind every exceptional classroom is a team of educators who continue to learn, reflect, and grow together. This year’s MSOSV Staff Development Day brought our teaching community together for a meaningful day centered on professional development, collaboration, connection, and appreciation.

As shared in our lead-up to Staff Development Day, the purpose of this annual gathering is to strengthen the work happening across our classrooms long before children walk through the door. It is an opportunity for our educators to deepen their understanding of child development, collaborate on curriculum, and reconnect with the mission that guides our schools each day: Children First, Always.

Growing Together as Montessori Educators

Throughout the day, our staff participated in professional development designed to support the whole child. Our infant-toddler teams learned from a licensed speech pathologist, gaining strategies to support early communication development in our youngest learners. Our primary guides worked with a behavioral therapist, focusing on practical tools for supporting children who may benefit from additional care, understanding, and guidance.

These sessions reflected one of the most important parts of Montessori education: seeing each child as an individual and preparing the adult to respond with knowledge, patience, and respect.

Building a Web of Montessori Memories

One of the most meaningful moments of the day was our “Building a Web” ice breaker.

Staff divided into two groups, and each group received a ball of yarn. The person holding the yarn shared a Montessori memory, then passed the ball to someone else while still holding onto their end. As each person shared and passed the yarn, a web slowly formed in the center of the circle.

By the end of the activity, each group had created a visible reminder of what connects us: shared experiences, dedication to the child, and the many ways Montessori continues to shape our work and our community.

It was a simple activity with a powerful message. Every memory, every guide, every classroom, and every child is part of something larger.

Collaborating on Curriculum

Staff Development Day also provided time for teachers to work together on curriculum. Teams participated in hands-on collaboration around a make-and-take curriculum unit centered on apples, creating materials and ideas they can bring back to their classrooms.

This type of shared planning strengthens consistency across campuses while giving teachers space to exchange ideas, inspire one another, and build practical resources that enrich the child’s experience.

Celebrating Our MSOSV Team

After a morning of learning and collaboration, our staff came together for a BBQ staff appreciation lunch.

This was a special time to pause and recognize the people who bring warmth, commitment, and professionalism to our school communities each day. We honored team members who have served MSOSV for 5, 10, and 15 years, celebrated staff promotions, and recognized those who completed Montessori training.

These milestones represent more than years of service or professional accomplishments. They reflect dedication, growth, leadership, and a continued commitment to the children and families we serve.

Children First, Always

MSOSV’s Staff Development Day was a reminder that investing in our educators is an investment in our children. When teachers continue to learn, collaborate, reflect, and feel appreciated, our classrooms grow stronger.

We are deeply grateful for every member of our MSOSV team. Your care, professionalism, and dedication make our schools the joyful, thoughtful, and nurturing communities they are.

We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to our MSOSV families for their support and understanding during school closures that make days like this possible. Your partnership allows our entire team to come together, learn, and grow; ultimately strengthening the experience we provide for your children.

Children First, Always.
