Getting Ready for the Kindergarten Work Period
Kindergarten in our Montessori classrooms looks different from a typical kindergarten year, and we want every incoming family to appreciate that difference firsthand.
Each kindergartner has their own designated space in the classroom, complete with a pencil box of tools built for their work period. This is where independence takes root: children choose their work, return their materials, and move through their day with a sense of ownership over their own learning.
Families who attend Kinder Orientation will see that space in person, along with the kindergarten field trip shirt, kinder journal, and tote bag their child will use throughout the year. We will also walk through a preview of this year’s planned field trips, giving families a fuller picture of what the kindergarten year holds.
Kinder Orientation takes place Thursday, August 13th, starting at 4:00 PM, at the same time across all our campuses.
This orientation matters to us because kindergarten is often a child’s first full year of sustained, independent work. We want parents to walk in feeling ready for that transition alongside their child.
