Touch a Truck at Cantera: What Happened When We Put Kids Behind the Wheel

There is a particular kind of focus that comes over a preschooler the moment they realize they are allowed to touch something they have only ever looked at from a distance. On Saturday, May 16th, we watched that happen over and over again at Cantera Montessori.

Touch A Truck brought families from across the Georgetown community to our campus at 4400 W State Hwy 29 for a morning of hands-on exploration. Big trucks and working vehicles filled the space, and preschoolers and their families moved through them with genuine curiosity. There were children who spent ten minutes studying the same part of the same truck, asking every question they could think of. There were toddlers who just wanted to honk the horn. There were parents who looked as delighted as their kids.

That is the thing about an event like this one. It meets children exactly where they are.

Also a special thank you to all the community partners who helped make this event such a success!

At Cantera, the Montessori approach guides everything we do, and one of its core beliefs is that children learn most deeply through direct, sensory engagement with the real world. Touch A Truck is not a curriculum activity. It is not a lesson plan. But it is deeply aligned with what we believe about how young children grow: give them access to something real, step back, and watch what happens.

We were proud to open our campus to the wider Georgetown community on Saturday. If your family joined us, thank you. And if you missed it, we hope you will come find us soon. Our doors are open, our teachers are ready, and we think you will feel something at Cantera that is worth paying attention to.

Events like Touch A Truck are one of the ways we introduce families to who we are and what we believe. If this recap makes you curious, we would love to show you the rest.
